Maximus is an enthusiastic box-a-holic who enjoys tummy rubs, having his picture taken, and mountain climbing. When he isn’t bird watching from his cat tower, he also enjoys cuddling, Da Bird, or playing “The Floor is Lava”. He is a big and active boy who likes to play with other cats, but if they run away he will always think the game is “chase” and not all cats like that. He shouldn’t be left alone all day or he will get bored and start exploring things you may not want explored. The company of people or other cats should do the trick. Maximus is a very smart cat who enjoys interactive play, solving puzzles, and trying to pull the wool over your eyes. A great way to spend some time with him is to give him a closed box or one turned upside down and let him try to figure out how to get into it. To introduce Max to other cats and set boundaries, he will need a room of his own for a few weeks, with gradually increasing supervised freedom. To set clear boundaries and rules, Max has learned that a couple of hours time-out alone in his room means he broke the rules, and he’s smart enough to figure out what rule he broke (each time) after a couple of immediate time-outs. But he may sing you the jailhouse blues. Max doesn’t seem to like dogs very much and would do better in a home without dogs. He even threatened a picture of a dog once at the vet’s office! Max is his best outside of adoption events – adoption events can be stressful. Foster-to-adopt is also an option so you can see how he does in your home before committing to adopting him. Max came to us from a Good Samaritan in rural North Carolina.
